Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced that a task force is being created on how to use artificial intelligence. Governing officials seek to create guidelines so that AI technology is used for good rather than to create chaos.
Secretary Mayorkas said the new technology could “drastically alter threat landscape.” He stated, “Our department will lead in the responsible use of AI to secure the homeland and in defending against the malicious use of this transformational technology.”
He added that the task force would explore using AI to improve systems, such as screening cargo coming into the country for illicit goods, like fentanyl, or items made abroad using slave labor.
